At 1430 on March 4, 2013 Sub Base Fire Dept. responded to Osprey Drive in Navy housing for a report of smoke in the building. A fire was found at the rear of the unit involving the electrical service. The power company was requested to respond and secure power to the building and a 1st alarm was transmitted. Mutual aid on the 1st alarm was 1 engine from Poquonnock Bridge Fire, New London Fire FAST team, Groton Ambulance, L&M Paramedics, and an engine from Gales Gerry Fire for coverage.

Groton — Two Navy families are living in temporary housing following a structure fire Monday afternoon.
The Naval Submarine Base New London Fire Department responded to the fire at 293 Osprey Drive. The fire was extinguished and there were no reports of injuries to the occupants, according to the base.
The families live in the housing complex owned by Balfour Beatty Communities. The townhouse where the fire originated suffered significant damage and an adjacent townhouse was also damaged. Both were deemed uninhabitable, and Balfour Beatty Communities and the base Navy Family Housing Staff assisted the two families with temporary housing.
The New London Fire Department, Poquonnock Bridge Fire District, Groton Ambulance and L+M Medics also responded. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
