Local F-219 wants to extend our support to the New London Firefighters Local 1522 during these tough budget times.  25 firefighters are slated to receive pink slips next month and the 5 vacancies that are currently open will not be filled.

New London announces major cuts to police and fire departments

Yesterday at 4:00pm, the Submarine Base Fire Department's Hazardous Materials Company was requested to respond to 19 Jay Street in New London for an unknown white powder.  Sub Base Firefighters along with New London Firefighters and the Connecticut State Police determined the powder not to be hazardous.  No further information is available at this time.

Effective 0730hrs April 30th, 2012, The Submarine Base Fire Department apparatus call signs will be changed to comply with the rest of the Navy Region.  In the near future, there will be a regional dispatch center that will dispatch all of Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire & Emergency Services (Virginia to Maine).  A new radio system called ELMR which we will switch to shortly, has made this possible.  For a complete list of all the apparatus call sign changes, click here.

It is with deep regret and sorrow I inform you of the  line-of-duty death of Lieutenant Ian P. Picard of IAFF Local F-4 - Chalk River, Ontario. Brother Picard passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 of a heart attack during fire suppression.  Brother Picard was 36 years old.

The IAFF has provided the following information regarding services:

The Visitation will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ringrose Brothers Funeral Home, 56 St. Jacques, Chapeau, Quebec J0X 1M0, (819) 689-2731.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, CP 40, Chapeau, Quebec J0X 1M0, (819) 689-5232. Muster point at Upper Pontiac Complex Arena, 52 CH Pembroke, Chapeau, Quebec no later than 1:00 p.m.

At 2041, C-21 was special called by Battalion 3 to 36 Blinman Street in New London for a working fire in a 3 story private dwelling with people trapped.  A 2nd alarm was later transmitted.  More information to follow.
